The Accuplacer

and advising information for students entering college.
The
Accuplacer has three parts:
- Reading
Comprehension: (20 questions related to reading skills,
such as identifying the main idea and making inferences.)
- Sentence
Skills: (20 questions related to sentence structure
and grammar)
- Mathematics:
(questions that range from arithmetic to college-level mathematics)
You will begin with one section and, depending on your performance,

Accuplacer Test
Preparation
Course Sequences
|
|
| It
is a self-paced, untimed test given on a personal computer. Most
students complete the test within 1 1/2 to 2 hours. The testing
is adaptive. The Accuplacer determines which questions will be
given next based upon previous answers. This provides a more accurate
method of measuring an individual student's skill levels than
a general test. It also means that no two tests taken are precisely
the same. You will be told how to get your results after your
testing session. Your scores will determine which courses you
are eligible to take.
If you are
unfamiliar or uncomfortable using computers, please let the Assessment
Center staff know and we will assist you in any way we can. Also,
there is a tutorial you can view on how to use the keyboard and
mouse.

Interpreting
Your Accuplacer Scores
After you take
an assessment or placement test,
choose a date and time to attend a Montgomery College Academic Advising
and Planning Program (MAP or I-MAP). The College requires advising for
new students. You will receive your assessment scores, learn how to
choose classes and how to register, and find out about the resources
and support services of the College.
If you have taken
the Accuplacer test, but still do not have your scores, contact the
Counseling
Center at your campus to obtain your scores.
To assist you in
interpreting your scores, you may print out a blank Course
Placement form (40KB-.pdf).
The Acrobat Reader is available free at: Adobe
Acrobat PDF format.
Read about the
math
courses required for different majors at the Rockville Math
Department website. This information, along with your Math Accuplacer
scores, will help you know which Math course you need to take. Come
in to see a counselor or advisor if you have any questions about
which Math course is right for you.
