Who
Must Complete Assessment Testing?

College assessment
tests are used to determine skill levels for placement in reading, English,
and mathematics.
| Your
registration may be blocked unless:
- You have
completed the course prerequisites as indicated in the MC
Course Catalog and the information appears on your MC academic
record; or
- You have
a degree from a U.S. accredited college or university, and that
information has been posted to your MC academic record; or
- You take
an MC assessment test and meet the assessment levels indicated
in the MC
Course Catalog.
You
must take Montgomery College Assessment Tests unless you are exempt!

- Earned
a degree from an accredited U.S. college or university.
Students who have been out of college for at least three years
and who intend to take a math or English course are advised
to take the Accuplacer.
- Completed
a college-level (not developmental) English and/or mathematics
course with a C or better at an accredited U.S. college
or university.
- Enrolling
with a letter of permission from another college or
university.
- Earned
the following scores on standardized tests:

- Personal
interest students taking their first eleven credits,
other than English or math.
- Additional
course assessment waivers may be granted (and in some
cases, credit awarded) on the basis of scores on specific CLEP,
Advanced
Placement/International Baccalaureate, and SAT II exams.

- I-20
applicants from abroad must take the TOEFL or IELTS. Students
scoring at least 400 written/97 computerized/30 Internet-based
on the TOEFL exam OR 5.0 overall on the IELTS exam may be admitted,
but will be required to take testing and possible additional
courses in English/ESL upon arrival. For information on how
