Step 2: Peace and justice in a larger context.
Now we will look at the two terms within a sentence or phrase and see our definition holds.

“If you want peace, work for justice!”  Are peace and justice linked ?
“The purpose of war is peace.”  Can peace be the purpose of war ?
“All we are saying, is give peace a chance.”  Is achieving peace really as simple as giving it a chance? What does giving it a chance mean?

Roger Ridley’s “ Music for Change”
Peace song- all around the world. This performance – wonderfully edited and mixed-  begins in France and ends in South Africa.

During the 1960s college campuses were exploding with political and social action. The 1960s was a decade of action: space travel, man on the moon, civil rights marches, protests, creativity, draft in the military, draft card burning, war, government takeovers by the military, gigantic music festivals, the Peace Corp, riots, burning cities, counting and reporting the number of war dead, military buildup of weapons that could blast us back to the “stone age” and the assassinations of leaders captured by cameras, microphones, and eye witnesses. It was a decade of tension “Make love, not war” or “Love America or leave it.”  It was a time when the United States seemed on the verge of exploding as people cried out-and fought- for justice. What is one person’s idea of justice can be highly threatening to another’s way of life.
