General Purpose Lab Regulations

Some Important Reguations

Below are some important regulations to ensure access and provide for the safety, convenience and security of all. Failure to comply with lab regulations may result in disciplinary action.

  • Workstations are for use only by currently registered students and only for work required by Montgomery College courses. The playing of games is prohibited. Use of e-mail and/or chat for any purpose other than course requirements is also prohibited.
  • Do not download, install or run any unauthorized software. Do not attempt to write to or alter the hard-drive or network servers in any way. Save your files to your own diskette or Zip cartridge. Do not run any instruction or setup procedure that will alter the hard-drive or servers.
  • You may not copy software from the workstations or servers. You may not take paper or other supplies.
  • Printing is limited to two copies per document, one for you and one for your instructor. (If you need more, photocopy machines are available at various places around campus.)
  • In order to preserve resources, the printers in the computer labs are configured to print on both sides of a page, and banner pages are no longer printed. Be sure you pick up only your own work.
  • Special forms, envelopes, etc cannot be used in lab or classroom printers. Do not change the default paper size or printer tray from the print dialog box in any application.
  • Food, beverages, and chewing gum are not permitted in the labs or computer-equipped classrooms.
  • Labs close promptly at the posted hours. Computer-equipped classrooms close when the instructor leaves. Be sure you have saved your work, completed any printing, and are shutdown by closing.
  • In Tech - R staff and student aides are not permitted to tutor students or to debug programs. For help with your course work, contact your instructor, or tutor available on the subject, or the academic department office.
  • You must adhere to all aspects of the College's Student Code of Conduct.
  • In order to provide service as equitably as possible, access to the labs is on a first-come first-served basis. If a waiting line forms, a 1-hour time limit on lab use may be imposed.
  • Additional instructions and exceptions may be posted in the labs/classrooms on signs. Please read all posted signs carefully!

Thank you and Best wishes for a successful semester!
