The WID Online Faculty Forum

Writing in the Disciplines seeks to provide all faculty with an opportunity to think about and enhance the role of writing in their courses.  The online faculty discussions that take place on MyMC enable a level of engagement and participation that are not always feasible in brief workshops during the workday.  Through a partnership with the Center for Teaching and Learning, Writing in the Disciplines is happy to offer an online discussion forum for part-time and full-time faculty and interested staff.

The first Online Faculty Forum, in Spring 2006, was an unqualified success, with over 30 full-time and part-time faculty participating.  The summary report of those discussions (included here) provided WID with much useful information on which growth paths it would pursue.

The current Online Faculty Forum is facilitated by Dr. Christina Devlin, a gifted teacher and writing expert.   Over 25 full-time and part-time faculty are once again enrolled and engaged in lively and stimulating discussions that help us make crucial connections with our colleagues, share about our classroom experiences, and share resources on enabling strong writing among our students.  Topics are posted every two weeks and there are general posting timelines.   Participants are encouraged to address them and/or to initiate discussions on more immediate concerns.

Registration for the online faculty forum takes place during the first two weeks of the semester.  Go to “MyMC Groups” and look for the WID listing; you will be prompted to register.   Participants receive a certificate for professional development credit.

One and all are welcome to join!
