Your Corner for Writing in Professor Nelson’s Auditing Class                     

Welcome to the Writing Corner—here you will find lots of help for writing in this course and others during your academic career. Ultimately, the goal is to help you perform in any writing environment.  As you know by now and as Professor Nelson has made clear, writing has gained a new and most important role in the field of accounting.  Writing skills are essential to the work of the present-day accountant and auditor, and so the CPA exam folks have instituted a writing portion that they review very carefully. Hence, given that we are invested in your success, we must begin to think about how to make sure you are ready!

You would do well to keep documenting your work on writing and grammar and to do a mid-semester self-assessment, to be sure you are making good progress or make any necessary adjustments:

Among the resources and tools available to you are:

·         The Writing and Reading Centers on all three campuses, Writing Center info,  as well as online grammar sites that include tutorials and quizzes, Online Grammar and Writing Resources.

·         A peer review sheet that helps students in the class and others give you helpful feedback and suggestions on your writing: Peer Feedback on Writings in Progress.

·         A tip sheet full of excellent suggestions for producing good, clear writing:  Writing Tips.

·         A checklist for making changes that will produce a well-written essay: Revision Checklist for Essays.

·         Information about plagiarism—what it is and how to avoid it, including a college library tutorial:  Plagiarism.
