Executive Vice President for Academic and Student Services
Montgomery College, Maryland

Chief Academic Officer for the College and administrative oversight for each of the College's three campuses in Germantown, Rockville, Takoma Park, for the Office of Continuing Education and Workforce Development, and for the Maryland College of Art and Design. Supervises student development units including Admissions, Records, and Registration and Student Financial Aid for the College, which serves more than 40,000 students each year in academic and non-credit programs. Directly supervises four Academic Vice President and Provosts, Director of Academic and Student Services, and Director of Admissions, Records and Registration. Responsible for oversight of Academic Assembly, curriculum, transfer and articulation issues.


Vice President and Provost, Rockville Campus
Montgomery College, Rockville, Maryland

Chief academic officer for community college campus enrolling 14,000 students per semester in over 103,000 credit hours. Directly supervised four academic deans, a dean of students and dean of the Technical Institute for Technology. Responsible for 265 full-time faculty, 429 part-time faculty and 100 staff. Provided direction and oversight of a 25 million-dollar budget. Directed and advised Faculty Council. Represented campus on President’s Cabinet. Provided college-wide leadership for Honors Program, International Education, Developmental Education, and partnership with local school system. Worked with staff and faculty to manage enrollment. Provided leadership for program and discipline review, unit planning and campus space allocation. Collaborated with faculty and staff to review and recommend college-wide implementation of campus foreign language program. Recruited several private donations to the campus, including a naming gift of over 1 million dollars. Participated in community outreach, legislative and budget advocacy. Developed relationships with ethnic and political advocacy groups. Collaborated with faculty, staff and students to make the governance process a strong, vigorous campus presence. Represented the campus to community, government, and state organizations and committees.


Major Accomplishments:
• Developed and supported new honors program, The Montgomery Scholars
• Leadership and support for MC/MCPS initiative, a partnership between the college and the local school system
• Developed and provided leadership for Pathways to Success, a unique developmental program for students with severe reading deficiencies
• Recruited 1.5 million dollar gift to support Humanities Institute and other campus projects
• Developed Campus Commons facility to house college-wide programs and to provide a welcoming environment for faculty, staff, students and community visitors


Instructional Dean, Humanities and Social Sciences
Montgomery College, Rockville, Maryland


Provided academic leadership, professional development, and supervision to a unit of 85 faculty and 20 staff in English Composition and Literature, History, Political Science, Sociology, Anthropology, Professional Writing, Philosophy, Reading, English as a Second Language and Criminal Justice that generates over 80,000 credit hours annually. Developed collaborative unit plans and budget allocations. Revised and implemented a new faculty evaluation process. Worked with faculty focus groups to increase enrollment and diversify instructional delivery systems. Planned and developed operating and capital budgets, including instructional computing budgets for over 300 computer stations for faculty and staff, a Writing and Reading Center, and an Assessment Center. Facilitated and supervised planning for the renovation of the major instructional building on campus, a 9 million dollar, six year project. Planned short and long-term strategies and goal development for academic programs, faculty and staff issues, and general campus administration with campus deans and provost. Assessed and evaluated faculty professional performance, instructional strategies, student and peer evaluations. Reviewed performance goals of support staff for congruence with area instructional goals and student success. Worked with college-wide faculty, staff and administrators to coordinate strategies for student success, budget review, and other inter-campus initiatives.

Served on campus and college-wide curriculum committees. Liaison to Academic Assembly. Coordinated campus activities for 50th Anniversary celebration. Supported and supervised Cultural Diversity, Critical Literacy, and International Education. College-wide coordinator of English and campus dean for assessment and appropriate course placement.

Major Accomplishments
:
• Initiated college-wide collaborative effort to test 10th grade students in pilot high schools
• Supported and encouraged successful faculty effort to obtain $160,000 International Education grant from the Department of Education
• Planned and encouraged the faculty development of the Montgomery Scholars program

Acting Instructional Dean
Montgomery College, Rockville, Maryland


Provided academic leadership to 48 full-time faculty and 19 support staff in two instructional areas: Business Management, Chemistry and Information Science; and Mathematics, Engineering and Physical Education. Developed collaborative unit plans with faculty and staff. Worked with faculty to determine allocation of resources for area budget. Administered and evaluated area programs and services. Reallocated funds to strengthen and expand the Center for Teaching and Learning. Evaluated faculty and support staff. Planned and developed fiscal year operating and capital budgets, including instructional computing. Worked with department chairs to discuss and plan schedule management, enrollment projections, student faculty ratios and full-time/part-time faculty ratios for academic year and summer sessions. Planned short and long-term strategies and total development for academic programs, faculty and staff issues, and general campus administration with campus deans and provost. Assessed and evaluated faculty professional performance, instructional strategies, student and peer evaluations. Assistant to the President

Provided staff support to the president in a community college setting. Developed agendas and briefing materials for cabinet meetings. Functioned as liaison for follow-up to faculty and administrative staff. Coordinated president’s schedule in collaboration with other senior staff. Managed all incoming and outgoing correspondence. Prepared materials for Board of Trustees meetings. Developed and monitored budgets for Office of the President and Board of Trustees. Coordinated programs and formats for annual administrative meetings. Provided staff support for the president during development of annual operating and capital budgets. Administrative Associate

Liaison to directors and staff reporting to the Administrative Vice President. Assessed units as part of review cycle. Administered Employee Assistance Program. Developed staff development plan for college staff using Continuing Education resources. Represented the Vice President at meetings and professional occasions. Investigated and revised parking policy for college employees. Resolved student and employee concerns.

Project Director, NIH/Continuing Education
Montgomery College, Rockville, Maryland

Administered an educational contract for government and employees returning to college for career mobility. Worked with administrators, faculty, and staff on three campuses to coordinate schedules, registration and advising; to staff the instructional program; and to implement college policy and procedures within the contracting government agency. Consulted with central College administrators to adapt admissions, record keeping and finance procedures to contractual program requirements. Recruited, hired and supervised student service professionals. Prepared budget documents. Acted as liaison between government administrators and appropriate college personnel and in central administration. Developed and monitored a diagnostic, advising and placement program for adult learners. Established a multi-purpose learning lab for English, math and career counseling. Supervised a tutorial program for adult learners. Wrote comprehensive monthly reviews, periodic reports to the Board, and Annual Reports. Coordinated a marketing team composed of College and NIH personnel to develop an intensive outreach program. Designed and wrote program brochures for marketing. Co-authored a videotape script for promotional purposes. Co-authored proposal and budget which secured renewal of government contract. Authored proposal which secured Maryland Association of Higher Education (MAHE) Outstanding Program award in 1987. Designed, staffed and monitored a support and remediation program for students with academic deficiencies. Supervised and evaluated professional and support staff team.

Major Accomplishments:
• Authored and acted as Project Director for 1.5 million dollar grant to provide on site college coursework for National Institutes of Health employees
• Received MAHE award for Outstanding Program of 1987

Diagnostic/Prescriptive Learning Specialist
Montgomery College, Rockville, Maryland


Coordinated a diagnostic program for all three campuses for identification of learning disabilities. Facilitator of campus Women’s Center. Developed a program of outreach, assessment, advising and support for admission of special students. Counseled students with personal, academic and career problems. Conducted weekly group sessions for learning disabled students. Provided crisis counseling for abused women. Adapted career development materials for adult learners and special students. Acted as liaison to parent groups, county organizations and national special services groups. Developed program orientation packages. Led math and test anxiety workshops. Facilitated goal clarification for undecided students. Interpreted and provided written summaries of placement tests. Skilled in human relations, groups process and personnel management. Developed a literacy training program for group process and personnel management. Developed a literacy training program for college-wide use. Taught English, reading, developmental writing, study skills and career courses at the secondary and post-secondary level. Designed and taught faculty in-service courses. Adapted curricula to meet needs of adult and special learners. Devised instructional programs to address individual strengths and weaknesses. Wrote individual development plans for secondary and college students. Administered and interpreted career assessment inventories. Designed and presented workshops on accommodations for special students to faculty and parents.

Major Accomplishments:

• Developed and staffed new alternative education and assessment program for students with special needs
• Wrote, directed and produced a video for a national conference highlighting instructional strategies to promote successful language skill acquisition
