COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course introduces further treatment modalities utilized in physical therapy including, traction, intermittent pressure pumps, continuous passive motion, and electrical currents. Specific conditions requiring use of the treatment modalities will be presented, and contraindication and special precautions for use will be discussed. Procedures for documentation of patient care will be included. There is a clinical component in this course. Only those students who successfully complete the didactic components of all PTA courses will be assigned to a facility. At the facility, the student will practice limited physical therapy procedures on patients, while under the direct supervision of a physical therapist. Students will meet for 1 hour of lecture and for 2 hours of on campus laboratory per week. |
