Professional Experience:

I serve as Director of the Paul Peck Institute for American Culture and Civic Engagement at Montgomery College. Prior to this appointment, I taught full-time for 20 years at Montgomery College.


My B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania is in English with a minor in French. My M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees from Yale are in English, with an emphasis on Victorian literature and history. I also obtained a certificate in Applied Linguistics from Georgetown University.

A highlight was the opportunity to speak about the community college and The Jefferson Café® at the 4th Presidential Sites and Libraries Conference, held in Hyde Park, NY, June 19-22, 2006.


I have also written several scholarly papers and contributed to books, including "The Evaluation of Critical Literacy at Montgomery College," from Critical Thinking: Unfinished Business, Christine M. McMahon, Ed. (New Directions for Community Colleges, No. 130, Summer 2005.)
