The Art Department Charitable Trust is an endowment fund, the interest from which supports the educational mission of the Rockville Campus Art Department. The Charitable Trust and its directors maintain and supervise the permanent Art Department collection, and provide funding for art lectures, symposia, workshops, demonstrations, artist-in-residence programs, a guest artist series, and highly specialized art equipment. The Charitable Trust funds are used exclusively to provide additional educational opportunities for all art students and to augment the resources provided by the College.

Gifts should be made payable to the Montgomery College Foundation. The Montgomery College Foundation, Inc. is a registered, nonprofit charitable organization with IRS 501 (c)(3) tax deductible status.

The Morris Graff Memorial Scholarship is a fund that is made available to Rockville art students who have an emergency need for funds to buy their art supplies.  To apply for this fund a student must fill out the Morris Graff Memorial Scholarship Application and have it signed by the designated parties. Forms are available in the department mail room.The Brenda and Sanford Guritzky Emergency Needs Fund, is a one time grant for Rockville art students and can be applied for by writing a letter requesting funds.  Directions for applying for this fund are available in the mail room.

The Rockville Art Department Scholarship Fund is an endowment, the interest from which goes to students majoring in art education, art history and studio art at the Rockville Campus. Each year, students apply for the scholarships by submitting scholarly papers or portfolios of their best work. All scholarships and awards are applied directly to tuition payments, and a number of them cover major tuition expenses for continuous full-time study in art education, art history and studio art at the College. A highlight of the academic year occurs at the end of the spring semester, when scholarship recipients are honored publicly at a special awards ceremony.

Montgomery College students may apply for art internships at the National Gallery of Art, which are awarded on a competitive basis. These internships provide exceptional experiences for students to work with recognized experts in the arts in the United States and abroad. Students blend learning in the classroom with valuable on-the-job experience while exploring various career options.

The internships are open to art related majors who have completed 24 arts-related credits. A cumulative 3.2 GPA is required. Typically, the internships are awarded during the last year of study at Montgomery College. Each intern averages 12 hours each week of internship duty at the NGA, per semester. The interns communicate regularly with the coordinator at the college and at the gallery, and completes assigned work that complements the internship experience.

The Smithsonian Institution and the Library of Congress Internship Programs are unique opportunities for MC students to experience the professional environment of world-class museum and library research activities. Samples of all types of activities in which an intern may participate and contribute are: assisting with new or on-going research programs in one of a wide range of topic areas; performing collection analysis and organization; designing and preparing new exhibits; abstracting and archiving academic materials; and planning new educational programs. Placement of the students is done by the Smithsonian Internship Coordinator, or the Library of Congress Internship Coordinator, and is subject to the availability of opportunities in each Institution.

The Art Department sponsors three different weekend art groups, open to the community, who meet to draw and paint from nude and clothed models. There is no instruction; participants provide their own materials and contribute a nominal fee to pay for the models.

 
 

The groups generally meet as follows:

The Student Art League promotes art and culture on campus. Members have sponsored events such as faculty lectures, workshops, field trips and gallery tours, art history study groups, art critique groups, a mural project, a logo contest, exhibit and design opportunities, volunteer art programs, receptions and social events.
