Since its inception in 1962, the Visual Arts Program on the Takoma Park / Silver Spring Campus of Montgomery College has flourished in its intimate and nurturing environment in an historic Victorian neighborhood. At the same time, the campus is just a few blocks from METRO and the urban life of a newly revitalized Silver Spring as well as downtown Takoma Park. Campus renovations of the old Giant bakery into the new King Street Arts Center are underway, due to open in the Fall of 2007.
The Visual Arts Department has always taken full advantage of its close proximity to the vast cultural resources of Washington, D. C. METRO provides students and faculty with immediate access to contemporary art galleries and some of the finest museums in the world. Students are able to take field trips downtown and return to campus during a studio class period. A Museum Resources course was developed to enrich and facilitate student access to these visual resources
