 Job Descriptions:
There are many positions applicable to individuals with information technology training. The following is a broad list of job titles for which CIS majors are often hired. Included is a general description of what a person with this title does.

Computer Scientist

Can work as a theorist, researcher, or inventor. Generally involved in designing computers and the software that runs them, developing information technologies, and adapting and creating principles for applying computers to new uses.

Computer Support Specialist

Provides assistance and advice to computer users. This often includes interpreting problems and providing technical support for hardware, software, and systems.

Database Administrator

Work with database management systems software to coordinate necessary changes, perform tests, and implement computer databases. He or she is often responsible for design implementation and system security as well.

Programmer

Analyzes data processing problems in order to plan, organize, and develop logical sequences of operations to be used by computers in processing information.

Software Developers

Design and develop packages and systems software. He or she may also be involved in creating custom software applications for clients.

Systems Analyst

Use knowledge and skill of technology to solve computer problems and enable computer technology to meet the particular needs of an organization.
