Sample of Job Titles and Salary Ranges

· Health Information Technology Supervisor – supervises employees in any/all areas of the HIM department
Health Information Technician – works with department employees and health care practitioners to assure accurate, timely and complete health records
· Coder (Coder/Abstractor) – responsible for recording diseases and procedures using ICD-9-CM and CPT-4 codes
· Analyst – responsible for the assembly and analysis of health records
· Quality Improvement Coordinator – works with physicians and other facility departments to monitor and improve quality of care
· Release of Information Specialist – responsible for the appropriate release of medical information by request or subpoena
Transcriptionist – responsible for producing dictated reports for health records (i.e., history and physical, discharge summary, operating report, etc.)
· Tumor Registrar – responsible for all activities involved in identifying and tracking cancer patients

Salary ranges vary depending on job description and facility location. The current range for entry-level positions is $12-14 per hour. The current range for experience, technical and managerial positions is $20-25 per hour.
