Leadership MD Presentation

Robert E. Parilla
Community Leadership Development Program

The Program offers content that is unique, not duplicating existing offerings but complimenting them instead. One unique part of this program area is the way this program area is informed by the Public Issues Forums (PIFs) and the Public Policy Institute (PPI) programs of the Center. These three program areas are designed to inform each other, providing an opportunity to learn and to apply leadership from several perspectives.

All components of the Center's work provides a means to learn deliberative dialogue and naming and framing issues of importance to one’s community, for deliberation. The Center’s role in coordinating Public Issues Forums (Local Issues Forums and National Issues Forums) with the local Public Issues Forums Steering Committee introduces and teaches people about being a leader through deliberative dialogue. People learn how to initiate and move talk on difficult community issues into complementary action while facilitating a democratic practice in their community, as a unique complement to other leadership styles.
