Crash Course on How to Become a Green Certified Business

Position your company to be among the first to get certified in Montgomery County’s new Green Business Certification Program, a voluntary program designed to help businesses go above and beyond basic green measures to reduce ecological footprint. This course will focus on the fundamentals associated with implementation of day to day business operations and policies covering: 1) Organizational Commitment, 2) Waste Reduction & Recycling, 3) Environmentally Responsible Purchasing, 4) Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, 5) Efficient Runoff Management and Water Use, 6) Pollution Prevention and 7) Transportation and Travel. The course will also outline green business opportunities, benefits, and strategies for leading environmental change within your organization.

New Sustainability Practioner Certificate beginning Spring 2011 !!!

Beginning Spring 2011, Montgomery College will offer a new certificate program for individuals interested in acquiring the skill set necessary to develop a strategic sustainability action plan. The following course, Introduction to Environmental and Social Sustainability is a core requirement of this certificate program. Students must also chose a concentration track (e.g., Sustainable Supply Chain, Green and Renewable Energy, or Green Marketing). An optional 4-month "apprenticeship" program will also be offered, providing the student with an opportunity to work with company stakeholders to develop a sustainability action plan.

Go Green!Introduction To Environmental and Social Sustainability, MGT348
This class introduces basic concepts and frameworks of sustainability to provide you with a solid understanding of how sustainability works, why it is important, and how to use sustainability as a lens for good business strategy. You will participate in weekly online classes, with reading and writing assignments between class meetings. Topics covered include creating a sustainability plan, employee engagement, energy and climate change, and sustainability reporting and communication. Students registered for this class are required to have a headset with microphone. Tuition waiver applies; seniors pay fee only.

“Green Jobs” are a hot topic right now. But what is a “Green Job”? This stand-alone course will provide definitions of green jobs and introduce participants to potential green career paths. Topics covered will include “hot” green careers, creating a green career (as opposed to having a green job), and positioning yourself to stand out from the many applicants for a green position. The course is suited for career changers as well as recent graduates and will also provide resources to help participants with the green career search. This class will be held at Bethesda Green, 4825 Cordell Ave., Suite 200, Bethesda, MD 20814.

Have you wondered what a “green collar job” is and how you can gain the skills to obtain one? This stand-alone course will review career paths for more technical and vocational “green” jobs, discuss training options, and review training programs and resources relevant to those career paths. The information provided in this course will enable participants to better navigate the world of green collar jobs and determine what career path may be most suitable for them.
