What is a Computer Scientist?
Computer scientists research, develop, and design computer software, hardware, and systems for scientific and technical applications.

How does this program prepare me for a career?
This program is designed for students who plan to transfer to a four-year degree program in computer science or for students in mathematics, science, or technical areas who wish to acquire skills in computer software development.  The courses provide an academic core of the theoretical concepts of computer science combined with the fundamentals of structured design and development techniques for computer programming. Students who complete the program earn the associate of arts degree.

What professions can I expect to enter after completing this program? What about starting salary?
A computer science student who goes on to finish a four-year degree is generally qualified for a well-paying profession in the technical data processing field, earning a starting salary in the $30,000 to $40,000 range.

What is the employment outlook for the next decade?
Jobs in the computer science field are consistently listed in the top 10 professions experiencing a shortage of qualified technicians.

What are the application procedures for the program?
Admission to Montgomery College is open to all. Math, English, and reading assessment tests are required prior to registering. (Some students may be exempt from assessment. Consult the Montgomery College Catalog for criteria.)  Financial aid and scholarships are available to qualified candidates.

Does Montgomery College offer Oracle?
Yes.  Oracle is taught at the Rockville, Germantown and Takoma Park Campuses.  You may also take Oracle through our Continuing Education program for non-credit. Please check class schedule for future offerings of this course.

Where can I get information regarding the Microsoft Certified Systems Engineering  (MCSE) Program?
MCSE is offered through the Information Technology Institute of Montgomery College . The ITI is a dynamic new presence in Montgomery County's high technology training marketplace. As your one-stop shop for technology training and education, the ITI offers credit and noncredit courses on all three Montgomery College campuses, at strategic off-campus locations in partnership with local businesses, and at industry sites upon request.
