A Conference on Fostering Diversity
at Montgomery College

Super Saturday is Montgomery College’s annual professional development conference for all Montgomery College faculty, staff, and administrators. MC is truly a diverse learning community committed to promoting equity for all regardless of culture, nationality, ethnicity, race, language, age, gender, sexual orientation, belief system, and exceptionality. As indicated in the MC mission statement, “We are the community’s college. We are the place for intellectual, cultural, social, and political dialogue. We serve the global community.” In keeping with the college mission, Super Saturday provides the college community the opportunity to attend multiple workshops that focus on diversity and the implications for teaching and learning in a diverse community. The workshops will include several breakout sessions that feature individual presentations, round table discussions, panel-moderated discussions, and guest speakers (Drs Larry Vold and Mary Harris-John). Super Saturday will be an outstanding opportunity for participants to attend informative presentations, share ideas, reconnect with old friends, meet new ones, and, most importantly, learn new things. This conference will afford participants the opportunity to gain strategies and tap resources through sharing ideas while addressing the issue of civility in our classrooms, our communities, and, in fact, our global village. I encourage all participants to use the resources provided in the site to explore issues of diversity and continuously share new ideas with friends and anyone who believes in Montgomery College's mission of "changing lives".

Finally, I welcome you to MC Super Saturday while encouraging you to attend as many workshops as you can to share ideas with presenters while forging new relationships with your colleagues. I encourage you to talk with your colleagues (those who are here for the first time, for the eighth time, or somewhere in-between) to build new relationships while strengthening the old. During Super Saturday, let's strive to develop curricula and instructional strategies that integrate intellectual and moral virtues and connect the values of diversity, equality, and democracy to help all students succeed.

Thank you,

Joseph Nwoye, Conference Coordinator.
