A "Standard" Assistive Technology Workstation

Montgomery College:

In an attempt to accommodate as broad a student population as possible and to make college resources accessible to students with disabilities, "standard" assistive technology workstations have been installed in key areas throughout all three campuses of the College. Locations include the libraries, assessment centers, and computer labs. Large monitors are installed in many of the computer classrooms and several are available to be rotated where they are needed each semester. Each computer classroom and lab has an adjustable table. Extensive assistive technology is available in the DSS Learning Center on the Rockville Campus. Specialty items can be purchased as needed for unique needs on all campuses.

  • A video magnification system to enlarge printed material
  • A scanner to work with assistive scanning software
  • An adjustable desk to accommodate wheelchair users
  • A trackball to accommodate students who have difficulty in using a mouse
  • A keyboard with an enlarged print overlay for low vision students
