Welcome back from the Office of Distance Learning!

We are anticipating a great year with the implementation of several new initiatives that you will read about in this newsletter. Our goals are to provide training, support, and resources to help online faculty and students have the very most successful online learning experiences possible.

To that end, we believe improving communication between ODL and faculty as well as among DL faculty is one of our most important tasks. This newsletter is one effort among many. Also, make sure to take a look at the DL Faculty Handbook. There you will find a great deal of information about WebCT, Elluminate, and more.

Our first faculty fellows, Gary Thai (G), Terri Maradei (R), and Glenda Hernandez (TP/SS) will be key players in the effort to improve communication. Please send ideas their way. Another initiative is the print catalog of fall workshops produced by the CPOD/CTL/ODL Professional Develop Collaborative.

UPDATE: Congratulation to Lynda Schrack, our hidden code contest winner. Lynda successfully found the hidden code, which was DL 248-50-MC.

ODL is running a contest for the Fall 2008 Newsletter. There is a hidden code somewhere in the newsletter which starts with DL and ends with MC (ex. DL-XXX-XX-MC). The code is hidden in the text somewhere on the site. Pass your cursor over the text as you read. The code will pop. Find the code to win a prize!!!

The first person to find the code and email it to Jeana Beaulieu will receive a $30 Gift Certificate to Barnes and Noble.

- This contest is only open to Faculty/Staff. Only ONE prize will be awarded to the SINGLE winner. -

Did You Know?

ODL is offering a new Advanced Online Teaching (AOT) Quality Matters six-week fully online course that provides experienced online instructors an opportunity to review and improve the design of their online course! It starts September 30th. Sign up in the PDS.
