The
mission of the School
of Education is to
provide high quality educational programs (consisting of both academic
courses and field-based learning experiences) that prepare students as
educators for diverse and inclusive communities of learners in environments
that are culturally respectful of children and their families. We seek to develop the knowledge, skills,
and dispositions required of the teaching profession. Teachers in the twenty-first century need
to be skilled as facilitators of active learning. To promote this goal, members of the
Education Department are committed to participate actively in the college
and community as teachers, advisors, and mentors, and to use methods of
instruction which emphasize active student learning.
