90 Hour Course Certificate at

Montgomery College

 

Montgomery College offers ED 120, Child Growth and Development, and ED 121, Planning Curricula for Child Care Workers.  Montgomery College students who complete ED 120 and ED 121 receive a 90 Hour Course Certificate which is required for senior staff/lead teachers at licensed child care centers or preschools in the state of Maryland.

 

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

ED 120 - Child Growth and Development - This course provides the student with the principles of child growth and development necessary to work in programs serving children from infancy through age eight. Emphasizes the social, psychological, physical, and intellectual development of the young child and the implications of these areas of growth and development on group care.  Provides 45 of the 90 classroom hours needed to become senior staff in programs licensed by the Office of Child Care Licensing and Regulations.

 

ED 121 - Planning Curricula for Child Care - This course provides the student with principles of curriculum planning for programs serving children from infancy through age eight.  Emphasizes activities, methods, and materials appropriate to the areas of curriculum in an early childhood program.  Attention is given to staff and parent communication and community resources.   Provides 45 of the 90 classroom hours needed to become senior staff in programs licensed by the Office of Child Care Licensing and Regulation. 

 

COURSE OFFERINGS

ED 120 and ED 121 are offered during Spring, Summer, and Fall semesters each year.  During Spring and Fall semesters, the courses are offered in three sections - morning, evening, and Saturday sections. It is the philosophy of Montgomery College that no student should be restricted from attending the College because of limited financial resources.  The student financial aid program has been developed to meet that goal.  For more information, call the Office of Student Financial Aid, Rockville Campus, at (240) 567-5100.  A tuition installment plan is available during the Fall and Spring semesters for students who register 6 or more credit hours.
