Our journalism sequence offers two interesting and informative courses: EN111, Introduction to Journalism, and EN245, News Writing.
EN111, the introductory course, offers you an excellent overview of the many facets of journalism today and includes practical hands-on media exercises and writing opportunities for you to explore journalism. After EN111, the Advanced News Writing course EN245 is the next step in developing your writing skills for mass media. You will learn how to develop writing skills for print news and news/feature stories.
The voice of students is expressed through Montgomery College's Rockville
student newspaper, The Advocate. If you are interested in writing, then The Montgomery Advocate is the place for you! Even if you are not primarily focused on being a journalist, The Advocate is where you want to be! Not only is it the place to learn the in-and-outs of journalism, but you also grow as a writer, get opportunities to go to free events, and meet other English-passionate people! Although editors, reporters, and contributors often
take EN111 while working on the student newspaper, no prior journalism experience is necessary and there is no GPA requirement: just your enthusiasm and time is wanted! Hope to see you!
