In our literature sequence, we offer students a rich variety of courses in the study of literary traditions, genres, periods, works, and authors. Our courses range from introductory, 100-level approaches to the basic elements of literary appreciation to sophisticated, 200-level offerings engaging students in more advanced aspects of literary analysis, research, and scholarly writing.

The Literature offerings at MC Rockville increasingly reflect the impressive diversity of our student body. We present opportunities for the study of not only British and American literatures, but of World Literature, mythology, the Bible, Asian, and Asian American literature, Literature by and about Women, African American Literature, American Literature of Nature and the Environment, Literature and Film, The Short Story, The American Novel, and Modern British and American Poetry. Our Special Topics course offerings have included Caribbean Literature, and our Honors Program tutorials in literature have included Caribbean Women Writers, the plays and poems of Derek Walcott, African prose fiction and African drama, the work of Frederico Garcia Lorca, Russian Literature, Linguistics, Shakespeare, Women and Film, and other areas of special advanced study.
