The American English Language Program (AELP) is comprehensively designed to develop and strengthen college level speaking, listening, reading and writing skills for speakers of other languages. Entrance is through testing and appropriate placement. Margaret Kirkland, AELP Coordinator The English Department, the largest on campus, offers a range of courses focusing on genres in English literature in addition to freshman composition and research writing. Most course offerings meet graduation criteria and/or transfer. Joe Couch, Credit Area Coordinator World Languages on the TP/SS campus are primarily French and Spanish, and Arabic is now offered. Courses satisfy the Humanities Distribution toward graduation and/or transfer four year colleges and universities. Shelley Jones, Area Coordinator Women's Studies is housed in the department. Courses are open to all and focus on gender issues and expose students to phenomenal writers and thinkers. Deb Taylor, Women's Studies Coordinator Reading courses include Developmental (college prep) to in-service elementary and secondary certification. The campus boasts a full complement of Reading Specialists with teaching and research backgrounds. Reading courses enhance college literacy, study and thinking skills. Registration is through testing and appropriate placement. S. Teuben-Rowe, Reading Coordinator The Department offers English courses designed to develop and improve writing skills. These highly structured foundation courses provide preparation for freshman composition and research writing. Registration is through testing and appropriate placement.
