Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) have been around since the 1970's and make up a large number of the medical transport personnel in most states today. They are highly trained providers who care for the critically ill and injured in a pre-hospital environment under sometimes adverse conditions.

Certifications and/or licensures for EMTs are governed by each state, and can be broken down into several categories depending on the level of training an indivual endures. Programs include both didactic and laboratory coursework, to include practical skills applications.

Montgomery College currently offers training to the EMT-Basic level, which includes basic life support skills. Plus, there are future plans to add a program to include the EMT-Paramedic curriculum.
