MONTGOMERY COLLEGE - GERMANTOWN CAMPUS FACT SHEET
Established in 1946, Montgomery College is an accredited, public two-year college with campuses in Germantown, Rockville, and Takoma Park/Silver Spring, Maryland. Montgomery College is the oldest community college in Maryland.
The Germantown Campus opened in 1978 and offers academic credit courses and transfer programs for students ultimately seeking a baccalaureate degree as well as a variety of career and technical education programs to support those in, or who are entering, the workforce. An increasing number of continuing education courses are now available from the campus.
Dr. Hercules Pinkney, Vice President and Provost, leads the campus. He is supported by six administrators and over 250 full- and part-time faculty and staff. In fall 2006, 5,529 students enrolled which is a 29% increase over the 4,293 students enrolled in fall 2000, with a corresponding 40% increase in credit hours (from 28,720 in 2000 to 39,966 in 2006). Continued enrollment increases are expected since the Germantown Campus is located at the epicenter of the planned growth in Montgomery County over the next 20 years. In the near future, the campus anticipates construction of a child care center and a new Bioscience Education Center which will be teamed with a County-sponsored Technology Incubator and a privately-financed Life Sciences and Technology Park.
