Geraldine Beneitez received a Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Physical Education from the University Politécnica de Madrid (Spain) and a Bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Alcalá (Spain). She has teaching certifications from Ontario and Spain. She is Spanish national coach of rhythmic gymnastic and weightlifting and provincial coach and trainer of figure skating. She is currently getting her certification in advanced health & fitness specialist from the American Council of Exercise.
Geraldine’s passion for wellness and health promotion has expanded through teaching health in combination with arts (dancing, singing and acting) to children, teenagers and young adults. She enjoys outdoor activities especially in Canada and Spain, her two loving countries. |

Monica Byrd received a Master of Arts degree in Kinesiology and Physical Education from the University of Northern Colorado and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Central Florida. She is certified by the American college of Sports Medicine as a Health/Fitness Instructor and by the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America as a Step Instructor and Personal Trainer. She is also a registered yoga teacher through the Yoga Alliance and certified by the Institute of the Himalayan Tradition in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Monica’s passion for wellness and health promotion has expanded through the collegiate, military, commercial and corporate sectors. She enjoys visiting her native Italy and Panama as well as running marathons. |

Professor Michelle Campbell

Ms. Campbell received her Bachelor’s in biology from the College of Notre Dame of Maryland and her Master’s degree in health sciences from Towson University. Ms. Campbell was a health educator working at local colleges focusing on alcohol and tobacco cessation and prevention. Ms. Campbell joined the Office of Substance Abuse Studies at the University of Maryland, School of Pharmacy working on research in opioid addiction and adolescent risk behavior. Today, Ms. Campbell is a researcher in the Neurology and Developmental Medicine Department at the Kennedy Krieger Institute. Current research focuses on etiology and treatment of movement disorders in cerebral palsy and incontinence in children with spina bifida. Ms. Campbell has been accepted in to a PhD program at the University of Maryland, School of Pharmacy in the Pharmaceutical Health Services Research department. Ms. Campbell will begin the program in the Fall of 2008. |

Sarabess Forster, M.Ed. is a "yoga acharya," having taught yoga all over the world for over 30 years. She created FAMILY Yoga Week for the International Sivanauda Yoga Centers and has taught yoga for children, adults, seniors, those with disabilities and diseases as well as yoga in Spanish. Her favorite activites are being upside-down, meditating, and gardening.

Sensei Hardman is a graduate of St. Leo College (now St. Leo University) in Florida. He taught English in the New York school systems for one year before moving to Maryland in 1971. He joined the U. S. Capitol Police that year and remained there for 32 years. In 1980, he was introduced to Shorin-Ryu Karate by a co-worker. He achieved the rank of Black Belt in 1983. He would later become a Capital Police tournament competitor. In November of 2000, Sensei Hardman was inducted in the Eastern International Martial Arts Association Hall of Fame. He returned to the Police Force in 2003. He is currently a 5th degree Black Belt in Shorin-Ryu Karate and a 1st degree Black Belt in Kobututsu (weaponry). He teaches at M.C. and Gilbert’s Academy of Martial Arts in Damascus. |

You can find Mr. Hart teaching health education and some of the physical education activity courses offered by the department. He is also on the wellness staff leading and presenting wellness courses to faculty and staff. In the capacity he assists the Wellness Coordinator, Brenda Salas. In addition to his duties at MC Rockville and Takoma Park, Mr. Hart is an ACSM Health Fitness Instructor and is the Eastern Regional Coordinator for the American Senior Fitness Association. Mr. Hart has a Masters in Nutrition and is currently working on his PhD dissertation in older adult nutrition. He is an ACSM Certified Cancer Exercise Trainer and an ACSM Certified Inclusive Exercise Trainer (for Pre and Post Rehap Exercise for all health conditions. |

Honey Monge has been an instructor for over twelve years. She has taught at various educational levels including: day care, high school, vocational school, and colleges and/or universities. After earning a Bachelor’s of Arts in Human Relations and a minor of Children, Family, and Public Policy from Trinity College in Washington, DC, she has taught special education and English as a Second Language for Prince George’s County Public Schools. While teaching high school students, she also taught adults English as a Second Language in Centro de Capacitacion and Sanz School. She then decided to continue with her graduate studies and earned a Master’s of Science Administration in Public Health with a concentration on Organizational Management also from Trinity College. While in school, she offered health workshops to ESL and the Medical Assistant students at Sanz School. Honey has also designed and implemented curriculum in the areas of ESL and Health. Honey’s latest research has been on implementing health and wellness programs within the work and school setting. |

After holding staff and supervisory nursing positions, Dr. Neuman spent the majority of her career as faculty and administrator in nursing education. She spearheaded a curriculum revision that infused cultural perspectives in to the curriculum and created, taught and marketed a cross-disciplinary course on Women’s Health. Dr. Neuman consults at hospitals on health care issues, served on a hospital strategic planning committee, writes rants and articles, presents at professional conferences, and held an adjunct faculty position at the University Of Maryland School Of Nursing. As a nurse researcher on quality of aging, she presented findings on gender, resiliency and aging. She was Principal Investigator on a National League of Nursing multi-site, multi-program type grant. She held numerous leadership positions most recently chapter President of an international nursing honorary society. Publications include Neuman, L.S. Professor Nisha Patel

Nisha Patel grew up in Huntsville, Alabama where she lived until she completed high school. She then moved to Florida where she attended the University of South Florida and University of Central Florida and completed an undergraduate degree in Health Services Administration. She later completed a Master’s from the University of Alabama in Health Education and Promotion and became CHES certified in 2007.
Nisha has been with HRSA for 6 years. She participated in the scholars program in 2001 and started working in the Office of Rural Health Policy (ORHP) in 2002. She has been with the ORHP for 5 years now and has worked on a variety of projects in the office. She began managing the Rural Health Care Services Outreach Grant Program in 2006 and works with 12 project officers to oversee approximately 120 grantees.
In addition to her full-time job, she currently teaches Principles of Healthier Living courses at Montgomery Community College which she enjoys tremendously. Nisha has been married for 3 years and enjoys reading, watching TV, traveling, shopping and is a huge sports fanatic. |

Michael Petty has taught hiking and backpacking at Montgomery College, Rockville since 1991. He is an avid hiker and kayaker and enjoys this area tremendously. He has hiked the entire Appalachian trail and kayaked the Potomac River all the way from Cumberland to Georgetown.

Brenda Salas currently serves as the Wellness Coordinator for Montgomery College and is adjunct faculty in the Health Enhancement, Exercise Science and Physical Education Department of Montgomery College, where she teaches credit classes in Physical Education. During her tenure, Montgomery College has been awarded the prestigious “Trailblazer Award” (2006, 2007 and 2008) by The Alliance for Workplace Excellence, which has partnered with the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce to recognize the efforts of local business leaders for their commitment to the health of their employees.
Brenda is a frequent presenter on a variety of health topics, including “Fit after 40”, “What’s in Your Wellness Toolbox?”, “Aging Gracefully”, “Women and Weights”, “Get Kids Fit”, “Heart Health” and more. She is a member of the Montgomery County Task Force on Obesity and is a contributing author on health and fitness for the Women’s Journal of Montgomery County. She was recently appointed to the National Board of Advisors for the Wellness Council of America (WELCOA) and is a member of the Montgomery College 2007-2008 Speakers Bureau.
She holds certifications as a Certified Conditioning Specialist, Certified Personal Fitness Trainer, and Certified Fitness Instructor from ACE, AFAA, and NSPA. She holds a Certified Wellness Coach certificate from the National Fitness Examiner’s Board and ACSM/WellCoaches. |

Kimberly Yost is the owner of “Define You Fitness.” She has been a personal trainer/athletic trainer in the area for 10 years. At Montgomery College Ms. Yost is a Health Instructor and has taught other P.E. courses in the department for the past 2 years. She enjoys teaching the students in the classroom what she applies in the fitness world. Kim also enjoys teaching a body conditioning class for the Wellness Program to help keep the staff and faculty in shape!
