Mission Statement |

|
The mission of the department of Health Enhancement and Exercise Science is twofold: first, to provide students who wish to pursue a four year degree with academic preparation and support: second, to positively and profoundly affect the health of our students, their families and our community. Healthy People 2010, the federal blueprint for maintaining and improving the health of our citizens identifies as its primary objective to "increase quality and years of healthy life". Our programs in health education, gerontology and exercise science as well as our "Healthy Campus" initiative are designed to help our college community attain this goal. Our department seeks to instill in our students a lifelong commitment to a healthy lifestyle. Our focus is on helping our students to identify and remediate risk behaviors such as smoking, binge drinking and use of other drugs while at the same time adopting health protective behaviors such as exercise, proper nutrition, and stress management. We seek to impart knowledge, influence attitudes and ultimately change behavior to help improve the quality of life experienced by our students both now and in the future. |
