Highlights from Fall 2004:

• A social dinner at Benjarong restaurant
• A food-based teambuilding event in the Marriott Hospitality Center Kitchen
• TheatreCafe, featuring the film “Frida” with dinner catered by Austin Grill
• A "Decadent Chocolate" cooking class by Sheilah Kaufman
• A demonstration and booksigning by Cook's Illustrated founder and editor Christopher Kimball
• A field trip to the headquarters of Marriott International for Hospitality Management students
• An Advising Open House to aid students with course selections for Spring 2005

Highlights from Fall 2003 - Spring 2004:

• A social supper at Amada Amante
• A weekend-long workshop on "Catering Confidentials," taught by caterers and authors Nicole Aloni and Denise Vivaldo
• The dedication of the Marriott Hospitality Center
• A lecture and booksigning with Ci Ci Williamson, author of “The Best of Virginia Farms Cookbook and Tour Book: Recipes, People, Places"
• A field trip to the International Hotel/Motel and Restaurant Show in New York City with students from Montgomery College, Northern Virginia Community College and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore at Shady Grove
• A "Holiday Entertaining" cooking class by chefs Carla Hall and Janis McLean
• Two pre-exam Study Hall events (Fall 2003 and Spring 2004), featuring tutors and healthy snacks
• Two Advising Open House events (Fall 2003 and Spring 2004), providing advice and guidance for students registering for the upcoming semester
• A networking reception for Catering class students at the Summerfield Suites by Wyndham in Gaithersburg, Maryland
• A Veggy Art class for students from the Catering class, taught by chef James Parker
• A behind-the-scenes tour of the Washington DC Convention Center
• A social dinner at Positano, an Italian restaurant in Bethesda, Maryland
• A lecture and guided tasting titled "How to Create a Cheese Course" by cheesemonger and food writer Carole Palmer
• "Diabetes University," a half-day conference for patients and caregivers
• TheatreCafe featuring the movie "Butterfly" and Spanish tapas from by Jaleo restaurant
• A dinner of international dishes, produced by students from the Catering class
• A class on "How to Make Your Own Fresh Pasta" by chefs Carla Hall and Janis McLean

Highlights from Fall 2002 - Spring 2003:

• A slideshow and lecture by Chris Caldicott about his travels, "Following the Spice Route"
• A "Tailgate Party"cooking class by chefs Carla Hall and Janis McLean
• A book signing and lecture on the foods of the Old World and the New World titled, " 1492: The Most Important Year in Culinary History" by author Elisabeth Rozin
• A lecture, book signing, and a catered reception on "Planet Taco: The Globalization of Mexican Cuisine" by Professor Jeffrey Pilcher
• A networking dinner and overview of Chinese cuisine at Seven Seas Seafood Restaurant
• A Thai dinner, cooking demonstration, and screening of the Thai movie, "Tears of the Black Tiger"
• A culinary demonstration and tasting by Master Chef Roberto Donna of Galileo Restaurant
• An evening of South Indian Cuisine, including a component tasting and dinner, from Bombay Bistro
• A guided tasting of chocolate with chef and chocolatier Janet Terry
• A lecture on "Restaurant Design Tools and Trends" by Matthew Von Ertfelda, Director of Concept Design for Marriott International
• A celebration of Italian cuisine featuring dinner from Galileo Restaurant and a screening of the move "Big Night"
• A student-prepared dinner for the Alumni Board of Governors, featuring a "Summer in Maryland" theme
• A hospitality career fair in Glen Burnie
• A kitchen-based teambuilding event for the President's Council
• Hospitality Day at UMES Shady Grove, focusing on "New Challenges in the Hospitality Industry"
• A social dinner at Yanyu restaurant
• "Diabetes University," a day of educational lectures and demonstrations
• "Better Communication Through Cooking," a teambuilding event for the Board of Trustees
• A vegetarian cooking class taught by Chef Aaron Forster and Sarabess Forster
