Program Description
Administered by the History and Political Science Department, the International Studies concentration is located within the Arts and Sciences Associate of Arts degree.  It is a multidisciplinary degree that encompasses more than 10 disciplines.  As of Spring 2002, there were more than 75 students following the curriculum. 

An A.A. degree recognizes mastery in the liberal and fine arts and is intended for transfer to equivalent bachelor of arts programs at four-year schools.  Montgomery College awards A.A. degrees in four programs: arts and sciences, business administration, computer science and technologies, and general studies. Within these programs, Montgomery College lists concentrations, which allow students to focus their studies in specific areas (for example, arts and sciences program - international studies concentration).  Officially approved concentrations appear on transcripts.

The international studies degree concentration is designed for students who envision a career in the international arena and plan to transfer into the upper division of another college or university with the intention of continuing their studies in such areas as international relations or area studies, and subsequently working in this field, be it in government, international organizations, trade, finances, business, or related areas.

This program provides students with a well-rounded introduction to the international aspects of many different disciplines.  The curriculum includes the General Education foundation and distribution requirements as well as concentration coursework in foreign language, international politics, the humanities, and social sciences.
