Student Enrollment and Student Demographics for Fall 2004
The number of students enrolled at the College this fall
increased by 2.7% to 22,254—the sixth increase in the last seven fall semesters.
Distance Learning and off-campus enrollments increased by 17% to 2,068 students.
Credit Hour Enrollments
Credit hours of enrollment increased for the eighth
consecutive fall semester; this fall’s increase was 2.7%, and credit hours
attained a record high 195,241. This
equates to 6,508 FTE (FTE=”full-time equivalent,” and in
Distance Learning and off-campus credit hours increased by 21.3% to 8,445. Most of these (n=6,922) were Distance Learning (82%), and Distance Learning credits represent 3.5% of all credit hours.
Enrollment by Sex and Race
The number of female students
increased, but females decreased proportionately to 55.8% of the students—55.5%
at
Nonwhite students increased to 58.7% of the students; Black students remained at 27.5%; Hispanic students increased to 14.9%, and Asian students increased to 16.0%.
Enrollment by Age
The mean age of students decreased slightly again this fall to 26.8. Students aged 20 and younger comprise 39.5% of the students. Students aged 25 and older decreased again from 39% to 38% of the population, and this fall there were 40 more seniors than last fall – a 7.4% increase.
