Credit Hours

 

Slightly more than one-third (36.1%) of the students attend on a full-time basis (12 credits or more)—the same as last fall.  The average (mean) credit load is also the same as last fall (8.77 hours). About one-in-six (16.9%) students were enrolled in three or fewer credits, another one-fifth (21.4%) were taking four-to-six credits, and one-fourth (25.6%) were taking between seven and eleven credits.  About one-in-twenty (5.1%) were taking 16 or more credits.

 

 

Full-time/Part-time Status

 

Collegewide 36.1% of the students are attending full-time.  A higher proportion of Germantown campus students are full-time (39.6%) than  Rockville (38.7%) and Takoma Park (36.5%).  Proportionately more male students attend full-time (40.3%) than females (32.8%).

 

 

Day/Evening Attendance

 

More than half of the students (58.7%) attend classes only during the day (up from 57.6% last fall), one-fifth (18.3%) attend only in the evening (down from 19.5% last fall), and one-in-five (20.3%) attend both day and evening classes. Thus, three-fourths of the students (79%) are here in the daytime and 39% are here in the evening.  The Germantown campus had the largest proportion of students taking some or all of their classes in the evening (49%).  Students enrolled in only distance learning classes accounted for 2.3% of students’ attendance patterns.

 

 

Residence

 

Montgomery County residents comprise 89.7% of the student body – 94% of the Germantown students, 92% of Rockville students, and 79% of Takoma Park students.  Out-of-state students increased to 6.4% of all students.

 

 

Disabilities

 

About 5% of the Fall 2003 students (n=1,139) report having a disability—a slight increase from last Fall’s 1,092 students.  Of the disabilities that students reported, a Learning Disability accounted for 36% and Attention Deficit Disorder constituted 22%.  There are 37 blind and 60 deaf students at the College.
