Montgomery College Transfer Students
Many
of the students who attend the College are doing so to prepare for
transfer to a baccalaureate degree-granting (“four-year”) institution.
Reporting how many Montgomery College
students transfer is tricky because our students don’t always start
their postsecondary career at the College, many only accumulate a few
credits before transferring, many who do transfer return to the College
for more coursework in between or during their attendance at the
transfer institution, and a sizable number transfer to other two-year
institutions.
Data in two of the reports here are
gathered by identifying all students enrolled at the College in a given
fiscal year (e.g., the July 1, 2004 – June 30, 2005 year). The student
names are compared with data files at the National Student Loan
Clearinghouse, to identify which students have transferred to another
institution by the following fall semester (e.g., Fall 2005). Data is
available for these transfer students by:
Ø
their graduation status
(i.e., did they receive a degree or certificate from MC)
Ø
their credits earned at MC
status (i.e., did they earn less than 12 credits or 12 or more)

College 2004-2005 students who transferred in Fall 2005
Montgomery College 2003-2004 students who transferred in Fall 2004
Additional data is
available on students who transferred to a Maryland four-year
institution, as reported by the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC).
This transfer student data, collected via MHEC’s Transfer Student
System, is more restrictive in that it is limited to students who
had at least 12 credits accepted in transfer to the four-year
institution and whose first postsecondary enrollment was in a Maryland
community college (i.e., Montgomery College).
