Program Overview
Thanks to a generous endowment by Gordon and Marilyn Macklin, Montgomery College
is able to offer our outstanding business students a very special program.
The Gordon and Marilyn Macklin Business Institute (MBI) at Montgomery College is
a distinctive honors program that provides a wide range of innovative,
high-quality business education opportunities.
MBI was
founded in 1999 as a sophomore-level
honors business program and has since achieved great
success. MBI's students have successfully transferred to top business
schools and secured valuable scholarship assistance. After much planning,
MBI is expanding to a
two-year honors program which will
enhance the
experiential learning opportunities
and business education possibilities for its students.
Graduates of the Macklin Business Institute Scholars Program will receive an A.A.
degree and are encouraged to set their sights on a premier four-year college or
university for transfer and completion of their baccalaureate degree.
Whether your choice is the Smith School of Business at the University of
Maryland or any other targeted institution, you will receive assistance in the
transfer process which will increase your chances for success in being accepted
to the school of your choice.
U.S. citizens and eligible non-citizens may be offered a scholarship that covers
up to the full-time, in-county rate, cost of tuition and fees (to a maximum of
30 credit hours per academic year.).
Sophomore-Level Honors
Business Program
This program is
for Montgomery College students who have
completed their first year of work in Montgomery College's
business transfer curricula.
Students will have the opportunity to enter a sophomore-level program which
includes honors work in economics, accounting, and statistics. The student
will be offered a real-world view of
business
in action
through various competitions and managing a real-world business. In addition,
students will have the opportunity to meet and develop mentoring relationships
with local, national, and international business leaders and become involved in
community service activities.
The core courses for this program are EC201, EC202, AC201, AC202 and BA210.
It is recommended that you do not take any of these courses prior to applying to
the MBI program. However, if you have previously taken any of these
classes it will not eliminate your application from consideration.
You may speak to a Business & Economics Department advisor or visit the Macklin
Scholars Program Office in HU208 on the Rockville campus for further guidance.
Applications will be available January 22, 2008. The application deadline
for Fall 2008 is April 30, 2008. Applications can be downloaded or found
in the Macklin Business Institute office in Humanities 208 on the Rockville
campus.

honors-level curriculum and pursue

student-run MBI Cafe and summer internships.
In addition, students will gain project management, team-building, and
presentation skills through various MBI competitions.
To apply for the two-year
program, students must have completed high school graduation requirements by the
end of June 2008. Scholars are chosen on the basis of high school and/or

Students will be notified of their acceptance by April 5, 2008.
