We offer a variety of courses for high school students and adults in a wonderful art school setting that provides a supportive community for beginning and practicing artists at all levels.  We currently offer classes in fine arts such as drawing, painting and collage; graphic design and web page design courses; art history seminars for lifelong learners; and portfolio development courses during the summer for high school students.

Classes are currently available to adults and students age 16 years and higher. Students 17 and under must submit an Emergency Contact Information Form when they register.

For a listing of current classes, please see our Summer 2014 schedule.

Our experienced faculty is composed of highly skilled working artists who teach classes that focus on the process of learning and creating art, as well as skill development using a broad range of media and techniques.

State of the Art Facility

We are located in The Morris and Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation Arts Center on the MC Takoma Park/Silver Spring West Campus. Once the Giant Bakery, the building was reconfigured into an innovative educational facility for the visual arts and design. Our facilities house an art gallery, art library, lecture hall, fine arts and digital design classrooms, and an art store.

For more information regarding the classes or to be placed on the program’s mailing list please call the Program Director Marcella L. Florence at 240-567-5806 or

We are currently in the process of updating our programming.  Some of our old programs have been discontinued, but we will have new classes coming up soon.  Please check back for more information!
