Academic Rigor
Is the College Tech Prep Program academically challenging?
Yes. High school Tech Prep students must earn at least a “B” in their high school Tech Prep courses to be eligible for transfer into the College Tech Prep Program at Montgomery College. Algebra II and Physics are the recommended minimum level of proficiency in Mathematics and Science for all of the Tech Prep programs, but students are encouraged to take pre-calculus or calculus in many of the programs. Articulation agreements for some programs include successful completion with a “B” or better in Advanced Placement courses.

Financial Benefits of the College Tech Prep Program
Are there financial benefits to completing the College Tech Prep Program?
Yes. The high school portion of the College Tech Prep Program is free. That means students earn college credit without tuition and fee expenses. The 2002-2003 tuition and fee rate is $103 per credit, so clearly, students can save hundreds of dollars depending on how many equivalent courses they take. Also, because books are provided during the high school portion of the program, there are additional savings in book charges.

How to Enroll in the College Tech Prep Program
How do students enroll in a College Tech Prep Program?
Students who are interested in enrolling in a College Tech Prep Program should talk to their counselor about their four-year plan. Once registered for a high school Tech Prep class, students are considered enrolled in the College Tech Prep Program. However, students must earn a “B” or better in the high school equivalent courses to receive college credit.

Alternatives if Program is Not Offered at Student’s Home School
What if a program is not offered at the student’s home school?
That’s no problem. The Thomas Edison High School of Technology (TEHST), located in Wheaton, Maryland, offers many programs from which students can choose. Transportation is provided to and from TEHST from every school in the county. Students interested in attending TEHST should contact the counseling office at 301-929-to request an application. When a program is not offered at TEHST or the home school, students have the option of going to another school; however, they must provide their own transportation.

Transferring Tech Prep
Credits to Montgomery College
What is the procedure for transferring Tech Prep credits to Montgomery College?
For students to receive college credit from Montgomery College, the following procedures must be followed:
1. The student should obtain a copy of the appropriate Articulation Agreement Credit Award form from their CTE/Tech Prep teacher.
2. The student must complete the form and mark the letter grade obtained for each articulated course.
3. The student must return the completed Articulation Agreement Credit Award form to their CTE/Tech Prep teacher.
4. The CTE/Tech Prep teacher will check grades for accuracy, sign the form, and forward it to the registrar at the student’s home school.
5. The registrar will attach a copy of the student’s official transcript to the back of the Articulation Agreement Credit Award form and mail it to Ms. Lisa Carvallo, Montgomery College, 51 Mannakee Street, Rockville, MD 20850.
6. The student should register for classes.
7. Once the student is a current student, the Tech Prep high school
courses will be transferred to Montgomery College.
