Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) Research indicates that the presence of vocabulary tools is the strongest single predictor of academic success. In CTL workshops, MC faculty discuss Dr. Kinsella's plea to positon the instruction of academic literacy "front and center" in the teaching of all disciplines. Beneficial for all, but especially for less proficient readers and protracted English language learners, her approach bolsters academic vocabulary in students so that they can successfully navigate across the disciplines.
