Nokukhanya "Nana" Langa
Montgomery College, student and artist, Nokukhanya "Nana" Langa is 15 years old and attends Clarksburg High School where she is in the 10th grade. Nana spent seven years in South Africa and has lived in Maryland for the past three years. Also an honors science student, she enjoys writing fiction, playing the piano and guitar, and reading "The New Yorker" literary magazine. "Nokukhanya" means bright shining light in her paternal language, Zulu. Her MC World Music banners are an extension of her desire to create art that sparks conversation. She has performed with the World Music Ensemble and has illustrated a children's health magazine. Nana is currently enrolled in art classes at MC.
This project was completed thanks to a “Make It Happen Grant.” Here are the first two panels of a 5 panel series that student artist, Nana Langa has painted for display during our World Music Events. One of the Ensemble Logo and the other of the Iroquois creation story, additional panels include Mande drummer, Egyptian oud player, and more…
