Course,
Curriculum, and Laboratory Improvement Grant
Facilitating the Comprehension of Biological Principles
through the Creation of Modules Utilizing Interactive Computer Assisted
Instruction and Hands-on Investigative Exercises

Each of the prepared modules emphasizes content pertaining to 2-4 scientific principles and consist of a computer-assisted component, a series of investigative laboratory exercises, and an applied project centered on a case study scenario. Students, working in groups of three to four, are introduced to scientific principles through a computer assisted component developed specifically to compliment the community college curriculum. Following this introductory tutorial, students then explore a series of investigative laboratory exercises where introduced principles are examined via hands-on activities designed to broaden student understanding and the procedural aspects of scientific discovery. Investigatory findings are then be applied to a case study requiring the application of content knowledge. Material is presented as real-life issues explored through science and technology, maintaining the interest and attention of the students.
