Telescope Lab, from "College Astronomy Kit" PS-13
What you turn in to your instructor as a lab
Assemble the telescope in your "Learning Technologie's" "College Astronomy
Kit" per the instruction in Activity 1 "BUILDING AN ASTRONOMICAL TELESCOPE."
After you get it built go outside and adjust the distance between the tubes
until you can bring your neighbors in to focus, upside down and left and
right inverted. Look at a stop sign. Make sure you know how to use it on
things on the ground fairly close by before you try to look at something
far away that subtens a small angle.
To look at the moon which is only 1/2 degree across you will have to brace
your telescope against a tree or pole or something that doesn't move.
To finish this lab after you have assembled the telescope and learned how
to focus it look at something on the ground like a STOP sign and draw it
as you see it, upside down and left and right inverted, and figure out some
way to email, drop box, or postal mail me a picture of what you saw with
your name written on it. This is a pettie lab, not a major lab project like
the celestial sphere labs and the three CLEA labs, and this should take you
almost no time to do.
