A Greek postage stamp of Aristotle (384-322BCE), student of Plato who was a student of Socrates.  He believed that the Earth was round because the shadow of the Earth upon the Moon in a lunar eclipse is always circular.  He also taught that the Earth was the center of the solar system not the sun unless the stars are very very far away because no parallax of the stars could be measured when the Earth moved around the Sun.
