Bok globules, named after astronomer, Bart Bok, are dense, dusty clouds seen silhouetted against glowing nebulae.   Only a light-year or so in diameter, they contain from 10 to 1000 solar masses, and infrared observations show that most are warm at their centers.  They appear to be contraction to form protostars.
