Supernova in the outskirts of galaxy NGC 4526.  The spectrum of this supernova and its time development light curve reveal this supernova a type Ia.  Type Ia is explained by a white dwarf continuing to accrete matter in a binary star system until it acquires more mass than the Chandrasekhar limit, and then explosively blows up.
