Model of Cygnus X-1 the first binary star back whole candidate.  There is definitely and O star visible.  The black holes hot  accretion disk is visible in the x-ray with the right time scales to be a very small object.  The Doppler shift of the visible O stars spectrum allows one to deduce the mass and orbital velocity of the unseen black hole.
