Anger Management
A little humor is some times very useful.
- When I feel like calling someone a Moron, please don't, this can get
you into trouble, if they are your superior in a hierarchy, or if you
are their supervisor; it may make them feel put down
unnecessarily, I just say instead, "that reminds me of a 16th century Spanish
military helmet." A 16 century Spanish military helmet is
called a Morion see the URL for the picture and description: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morion_(helmet).
- When I feel like using a common Anglo-Saxon or German curse word
beginning with an S, I say "Beta Pegasus" whose Arabic name is Scheat. In the southern
United State of America both words are pronounced very similarly.
If I slip and say the S word, I just claim I was speaking astronomy and
referencing the second brightest star in the constellation Pegasus,
since it is well known that all flying horses do this. See the
URL: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beta_Pegasi.
This always relieves my tension. A variant on this is "meadow mushroom spawn," which of
course can be sterilized horse feces.
- Occasionally I hear the F word, "unlicensed Carnal Knowledge"or UCK are both more acceptable.
- Recently I have head the word mother
before the F word and conjuring with Oedipus Rex see the URL at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oedipus_Rex
for the story of this ancient Greek King's story, evidently he did this
and tore out his eyes and was attacked by the Erinyes.
So don't do this or recommend it to others as it has lead to much
trouble.
- While I still occasionally say hell, I am trying to alter my
speech pattern to say Gehenna,
see the URL: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gehenna.
That’s what Jesus is quoted to have said 12 times in the synoptic
gospels; it is a garbage pit outside of Jerusalem in ancient times,
evidently. Doing like Rabi Jesus, may get you crucified, but it
will not get you fired from your job as we live in more enlightened
times now.
So I guess history,
astronomy, agronomy, and religion can all be
used to help us get along and engage in civil conversation. Words
are always important, even if "sticks
and stones will break my bones, but words will never hurt me;"
we all know that words can be fighting words and they can lead to
shoving, jabbing, and hitting with sticks and stones following
latter. So lets keep it calmer. Again Ravi Jesus is quoted in
Matthew 15:11 as saying,
The food that you put into your mouth
doesn't make you unclean and unfit to worship God. The bad words
that come out of your mouth are what make you unclean. {Contemporary English Version}
Evidently Jesus disciples had a great
deal of trouble with this concept, too, so he had to further elaborate,
so in Matthew 15:12-20 it is further said: 12 Then his
disciples came over to him and asked, "Do you know that you insulted
the Pharisees by what you said?" 13 Jesus answered, "Every plant that
my Father in heaven did not plant will be pulled up by the roots. 14
Stay away from those Pharisees! They are like blind people leading
other blind people, and all of them will fall into a ditch." 15 Peter
replied, "What did you mean when you talked about the things that make
people unclean?" 16 Jesus then said: Don't any of you know what I
am talking about by now? 17 Don't you know that the food you put into
your mouth goes into your stomach and then out of your body? 18 But the words
that come out of your mouth come from your heart. And they are what make you unfit to worship
God. 19 Out of your heart come evil thoughts, murder,
unfaithfulness in marriage, vulgar deeds, stealing, telling lies, and
insulting others. 20 These are what make you unclean.
Eating without washing your hands will not make you unfit to worship
God.
Just in case you are not interested in worshiping God, personally I am, since I have been a
deacon in two different Baptist churches over the years, but who knows
maybe I was wasting my time, then consider worshiping God as
acknowledging the value and worth of the way the world
works. Not acknowledging the value and worth of the way the
universe works, and you will be in for a real bruising.
None of us really want to be bruised, it hurts!
