Deborah Preston, Ph.D.
Biography:
As the Instructional and Collegewide Dean for the Arts, Dr. Deborah Preston has administrative oversight for the Fine, Visual, and Performing Arts instructional area on the Rockville Campus and the Montgomery College Arts Institute. On the Rockville Campus, she
oversees the departments of Music; Art; Communication Arts Technologies; and
Speech, Dance, and Theatre, as well as the Robert E. Parilla Performing Arts
Center.
Dr. Preston most recently served as a campus provost at Georgia
Perimeter College, an urban, two-year, multi-campus institution, in Atlanta,
Georgia. She also worked extensively with the University System of Georgia as
chair of the European Council, a statewide consortium of study abroad and
international education programs. In 2004, she spent a semester at Montgomery
College as a member of the 2004-05 class of ACE Fellows, a prestigious
leadership cohort selected by the American Council on Education. She previously
taught English and theatre courses at Georgia Perimeter College and served as
the Humanities department chair. She was a recipient of the NISOD Excellence in
Teaching Award in 2004 and the Georgia Perimeter College Lawrenceville Campus
Leadership Award in 1998.
Dr. Preston earned her B.A. in theatre from Florida State in 1986 and her M.A.
in English from the same institution in 1988. She received her Ph.D. in English
with an emphasis in dramatic literature from Tulane University in 1998.
