Area Description: The
Business, Economics, Computer Applications, Computer Science, and Hospitality
Management Departments are active and productive contributors to the Rockville
Campus. Special Area programs, the Macklin Business Institute and the Marriott
Hospitality Center, bring many unique opportunities to the College and
community.
The Computer Applications Department offers a new gaming certificate and an
inter-departmental Web Careers degree, and has provided in-service training for
Macromedia MX. The Computer Science Department offers several certificate
programs.
The Business and Economics Department offers upper level accounting courses, as
well as a wide variety of courses in business administration, economics, and
management. Several courses are now offered on the Web.
Macklin Business Institute (MBI) students lead the way to success in the MBI
Café, Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) projects, and honors courses. The MBI
offers lectures and symposia throughout the year that are open to the public.
Each semester, The Marriott Hospitality Center (MHC) sponsors events including
lectures, cooking demonstrations, movies, dinners, and a “Study Hall with
Healthy Snacks” during final exams. In 2003, MHC distributed more than $20,000
in scholarships to students enrolled in the hospitality management programs of
MC and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore at Shady Grove.
