Area Description:
The Evening/Weekend Office (EWO) is a special resource on the Rockville campus that has existed for more than 20 years to support the part-time faculty. It was established initially to provide office support and working space for part-time faculty members at those times when academic department offices were traditionally closed, evenings and weekends. It now also provides support throughout the day as well to many part-time faculty members whose academic department facilities are not large enough to provide a full range of part-time faculty support services.
The broader mission of the Evening/Weekend Office is reflected in the work and responsibilities of the EWO Director. The Director, in addition to providing administrative oversight of the EWO and working to improve resources, services, and professional development opportunities for the part-time faculty, serves as the Campus Administrator, the on-site “Evening Dean,” for the campus during most evening and weekend class hours, those times when many campus offices are usually closed. As such, the Director is an administrative “trouble-shooter” available to any campus community member who might have questions or problems that need immediate attention. In addition, the Director leads campus efforts to identify issues important to the evening/weekend community and to improve the traditional “off hours” campus context in which many students, staff, and faculty work and learn each semester.
