Biography:
Dr. Sanjay Rai
was appointed instructional dean of Science, Engineering, and Mathematics in
August, 2004. Previously,
Dr. Rai taught
developmental, undergraduate, and graduate level mathematics and statistics
courses at four universities, he contributed to program design at two
universities, and he helped establish partnerships between universities and
community colleges, securing accreditation and using technology in the
classroom. Having worked extensively with diverse student populations,
Dr. Rai
guided undergraduate research in mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, and
engineering. Dr. Rai,
formerly professor and chair of the Department of Mathematics at
Jacksonville University in Florida, completed a B.S. in Statistics, Physics, and
Mathematics from the University of Allahabad in India, an M.S. in Mathematics
from the same institution, an M.S. in Mathematics from Dalhousie University in
Halifax, Canada, and a Ph.D. in Mathematics for the University of Arkansas in
Fayetteville, where he received awards for excellence in teaching and for
outstanding work in teaching and graduate studies. He worked on two projects as
a research fellow at Harish Chandra Research Institute of Mathematics and
Mathematical Physics and is the author of numerous scholarly articles and other
academic publications.
