Area Description:
The focus
for the Science, Engineering, and Mathematics (SEM) area is on providing
instruction and support services for students enrolled or majoring in SEM
courses.
SEM engages in the following activities in order to contribute to student
enrollment, retention, and success:
- Provides high quality instruction in transfer, general
education, and developmental courses to enable students to achieve their
educational goals;
- Advises students effectively;
- Encourages the continued development of professional and
support personnel in the unit;
- Evaluates programs and operations to assure that they
meet student and community needs;
- Creates and maintains an environment in which
institutional objectives can be achieved;
- Develops partnership with business, industry, Montgomery
County Public Schools, and transfer institutions; and
- Pursues grant opportunities to support new area and
college initiatives.
